Reefs are often called "The Gardens of the sea" because of all the marine life that they support. Each reef is a teeming colony of marine species. The Cook Islands are a wonderful southern pacific getaway place. They are named after captain cook, who sighted them in 1770. They are only 236 Square Kilometers, less than twice the size of Washington D.C. They are made up of low coral atolls in north; volcanic, hilly islands in south.
